There are actually three ways that institutions, corporations and individuals trade forex: the spot market, the forwards market, and the futures market. Forex trading in the spot market has always been the largest market because it is the "underlying" real asset that the forwards and futures markets are based on. In the past, the futures market was the most popular venue for traders because it was available to individual investors for a longer period of time. However, with the advent of electronic trading and numerous forex brokers, the spot market has witnessed a huge surge in activity and now surpasses the futures market as the preferred trading market for individual investors and speculators. When people refer to the forex market, they usually are referring to the spot market. The forwards and futures markets tend to be more popular with companies that need to hedge their foreign exchange risks out to a specific date in the future.

Balance of trade levels and trends: The trade flow between countries illustrates the demand for goods and services, which in turn indicates demand for a country's currency to conduct trade. Surpluses and deficits in trade of goods and services reflect the competitiveness of a nation's economy. For example, trade deficits may have a negative impact on a nation's currency.
As a trader progresses and gains more experience, they will likely find ways to improve their strategies or notice other market tendencies that can be exploited if another strategy is formulated. A successful trader may also find that a strategy that once worked is no longer performing well. In this way, a trader is always learning from their experiences and trying to find better ways of performing their job. They are simply adapting to changes in the market that may make current strategies obsolete but provides an opportunity for a new strategy to be deployed.

Proprietary platforms are unique platforms which are designed by a brokerage to suit their unique product offerings. Some brokers decide to go this route so as to give something extra to their clients beyond what the turnkey platforms offer. For instance, the eToro OpenBook/CopyTrader software is proprietary software from eToro, specifically created for this broker’s social trading program. You will not find a replica of this software anywhere else. The Plus500 proprietary platform for web, PC and mobile are extremely user-friendly which makes it perfect for new traders, plus it has enough capability for more experienced traders to implement indicators and strategies onto the platform charts.
It’s critical to understand that the top forex trading platforms by popularity are MetaTrader 4 and cTrader due to the number of international and Australian forex brokers that offer it. You may feel that the top forex trading platform is IG, EasyMarkets etc but this makes is more difficult down the track to switch currency brokers. As a rule of thumb, when deciding which forex trading is the best, you should consider the popularity of the platform as a long-term consideration.
Beginners will certainly require a stripped down simplistic version of a trading platform. It will need to be user-friendly and simple to understand. Beginner traders will not necessarily need indicators and will probably not execute complex orders.  Beginners can find trading sentiment bars (showing how other traders are trading) and copy trading services particularly useful. They should refer to charts of course, but perhaps won’t yet be ready to implement technical studies.
Order Execution: Available execution methods can depend on whether the broker is a principal dealer acting as a market maker, and/or if they are an agency-only broker relying on third-party dealers (liquidity providers). Other execution methods, policies, conditions, or available order types can vary (including premium or free trade protection tools such as guaranteed stop-loss orders, fill-or-kill or fill within a maximum deviation range) can vary from broker to broker.
While we are focusing here on choosing a Trading Platform it is important to note that it goes hand in hand with selecting the best Forex broker for you. You have to like the technology that the broker has on offer. In helping you decide on the best Forex trading software or Forex trading platform for you, you must be able to answer some basic questions. The questions posed below give some insight as to things the trader should consider when choosing a platform.
Individual retail speculative traders constitute a growing segment of this market. Currently, they participate indirectly through brokers or banks. Retail brokers, while largely controlled and regulated in the US by the Commodity Futures Trading Commission and National Futures Association, have previously been subjected to periodic foreign exchange fraud.[64][65] To deal with the issue, in 2010 the NFA required its members that deal in the Forex markets to register as such (I.e., Forex CTA instead of a CTA). Those NFA members that would traditionally be subject to minimum net capital requirements, FCMs and IBs, are subject to greater minimum net capital requirements if they deal in Forex. A number of the foreign exchange brokers operate from the UK under Financial Services Authority regulations where foreign exchange trading using margin is part of the wider over-the-counter derivatives trading industry that includes contracts for difference and financial spread betting.
In the early 2000s, brokers used to concentrate on offering just one asset class, for example, forex, to their customers. Today, trading platforms are no longer just for trading forex or CFDs; instead, multi-asset offerings are now industry standards among all the most significant online brokers. That said, the range of products and markets you can trade still varies considerably across firms.

CAUTION – Be careful. Many paid subscriptions marketed online, especially in social media, come from one-off traders that claim to have fantastic returns and can teach you how to be successful. 99.99% of them are a really poor investment and come with higher prices of $99 – $149 per month, or more. The worst damage though comes when you try to do what they do, invest way too much in a stock tip, and get burned when it doesn’t work out. See, Day Trading: 10 Lessons That Changed My Career.

Investment management firms (who typically manage large accounts on behalf of customers such as pension funds and endowments) use the foreign exchange market to facilitate transactions in foreign securities. For example, an investment manager bearing an international equity portfolio needs to purchase and sell several pairs of foreign currencies to pay for foreign securities purchases.

Currency speculation is considered a highly suspect activity in many countries.[where?] While investment in traditional financial instruments like bonds or stocks often is considered to contribute positively to economic growth by providing capital, currency speculation does not; according to this view, it is simply gambling that often interferes with economic policy. For example, in 1992, currency speculation forced Sweden's central bank, the Riksbank, to raise interest rates for a few days to 500% per annum, and later to devalue the krona.[82] Mahathir Mohamad, one of the former Prime Ministers of Malaysia, is one well-known proponent of this view. He blamed the devaluation of the Malaysian ringgit in 1997 on George Soros and other speculators.

A spot transaction is a two-day delivery transaction (except in the case of trades between the US dollar, Canadian dollar, Turkish lira, euro and Russian ruble, which settle the next business day), as opposed to the futures contracts, which are usually three months. This trade represents a “direct exchange” between two currencies, has the shortest time frame, involves cash rather than a contract, and interest is not included in the agreed-upon transaction. Spot trading is one of the most common types of forex trading. Often, a forex broker will charge a small fee to the client to roll-over the expiring transaction into a new identical transaction for a continuation of the trade. This roll-over fee is known as the "swap" fee.

Inflation levels and trends: Typically a currency will lose value if there is a high level of inflation in the country or if inflation levels are perceived to be rising. This is because inflation erodes purchasing power, thus demand, for that particular currency. However, a currency may sometimes strengthen when inflation rises because of expectations that the central bank will raise short-term interest rates to combat rising inflation.

The time horizon becomes extremely important at this juncture. Financial markets grind out trends and trading ranges with fractal properties that generate independent price movements at short-term, intermediate-term and long-term intervals. This means a security or index can carve out a long-term uptrend, intermediate downtrend and a short-term trading range, all at the same time.
They have a simple philosophy of how to become a successful trader: “make pips, keep pips, repeat.” But they don’t shy away from telling you it’s going to be difficult. Their course is well structured with levels ranging from ‘preschool’ to ‘graduation’ with maybe a few too many puns throughout!  If you enjoy their humour then this course could be the perfect forex entry point.
